I am not one to normally leave reviews, but wanted to share my experience as I know the troubles of finding the perfect boot. I searched and read a lot of reviews for different boots, all with wide calf options, before deciding to take a chance on the Penny 2; I could not be more pleased. At my widest, my calf is 17 3/4 wide and ordered a size 9 boot. I had zero trouble zipping up the boots wearing a pair of skinny jeans and still even have a little room for comfort. I normally wear an 8.5, but ordered a size 9 and although they are a little loose in the foot with just a thin sock, when I doubled up on the socks the 9 fit perfect.

Gorgeous brown leather riding boot! It’s true that the calf section is very wide, but I tend to purchase wide-calf boots and prefer the comfort those offer, especially with varying thickness of jeans and wool socks in the winter. They are incredibly comfortable for walking and go with all of my clothes. Can’t wait to really wear these during the fall and winter seasons! I’m 5’6″ and typically wear a 9 — these felt very true to size with a little room for thick socks. They come up pretty high — about an inch under my knee — which I love.

Since I am new to owning leather boots, I want to add something that I didn’t read in reviews before I bought these wonderful boots. Treat the leather with a good waterproofing solution, and expect the leather around the calves to stretch with wear. Mine fit perfectly now after being a little hard to zip around my 17″ calves the first time I tried them on.

Love! I have good-sized calves (17.5″) with a normal size foot (10 – medium width) and it took A LOT of research to find boots that were real leather, stylish, and would fit my over-sized (not “fat girl”) calves. I wore them the first day and next with a decent amount of walking and they were absolutely comfortable! Moderate arch support was a must-have since I’ve been battling heel spurs. With some good leather care, these boots should last a long time and remain undated in style. Awesome purchase!

I loved the look of these boots. I’ve never had to purchase a wide calf boot before. I never really thought I have wide calves but I guess I do! These weren’t super wide; there was plenty of room but not so much that it looks bad. My issue with these boots is how narrow the foot is! I have average to wide feet but usually can get away with a regular width shoe or boot. These were horribly uncomfortable. And the heel felt really hard and uncomfortable. I am so disappointed. I loved the look of these boots but sadly they just were not a fit so they have been returned.

I have 15½” calfs, these boots have about a 16″ circumference and I loved how they looked with tights and skinny jeans because the boots were not snug with my legs. However, these boots run narrower around the feet than most boots that I have tried on. I am typically a M and I would want a W in these. Additionally, it is hard to tell in the photo, but the toes are pretty pointed, which leaves about half an inch of room for your toes and can make your feet look long. Ordering a size down would not be an option because they are still too narrow. If you are going to order these boots, order them in a W and half a size down. Coming from a size 9½, 15½” circumference, with average feet. These boots are beautiful. I wish they would have worked out!

I ordered the the Penny boots with the wide calf because I have athletic legs and was worried that the shaft circumference would be too narrow for my legs. However, when I tried these boots on, they were way too wide at the top and flared out…which was strange. Order half a size up and get the regular calf if you’ve got medium sized calves too!

My third pair of Edelman boots and I love them all. My calf measures 16″ and these zip comfortably over slim fit pants. They also stretch a little after you wear them. I was looking at the Frye boots, but this is a great looking boot at a more comfortable price point for me.

These boots are stylish. They fit my wide calves, wider even now that I’m six months pregnant. The ankles are slim, whereas most wide calf boots are too loose at the ankles. However, they were a half size too small. I normally wear a size 7-7.5 and ordered a 7.5. The heels were rubbing painfully and I didn’t want to keep them and hope that they would stretch out. I don’t think this is due to my feet swelling. All of my other shoes fit just fine. I’m taking full advantage of Zappos’ new exchange program to send back this pair and get a pair of size 8 boots.

I thought I needed the wide calf after trying my size, 7½M, in the regular Penny boots, which I nearly died trying to zip those over my 16″ calf! But this wide calf version is really wide! I tried these in both the 7.5M and the 7W, but the width was still too much even in a half size down. If you like to have a very pronounced gap around your calf then these are for you. Or if you plan to regularly wear these over jeans, then these will work. But just over leggings or over tights these made me and my 5’1″ stature look like Puss in Boots! Even at 16″ my calves were swimming in these. They are beautiful and comfortable, but in the end I got the regular Penny boots in a half size up, 8M, which gave me the extra half inch in the calf I needed and I will just need slightly thicker socks to fill the foot bed a smidge.

I’m so happy with these boots! I have such a hard time finding wide calf boots that don’t look sloppy. These zip right up over my 17in calves with room to spare and look great! I’m usually a size 10 medium width, but based on the reviews I sized up to a 10.5 and they fit perfect with thicker socks. I have narrow feet and high arches but a wider foot pad, and they are a little loose in the heel. Also, there is definitely some arch support to these boots so if you have a little to no arch I would go with a wide. I wish these boots came in grey like the standard version!

The shaft on these definitely fit a wider calf (I’m a size 7.5 with a 17″ calf) and they zip up. With jeans under they’d be snug but would still zip up. The reason I’m returning is that I feel they look a little sloppy–I knew this would be a risky purchase because the leather looks very soft in the photos, but I was hoping the fit would be so great that I could overlook it. Added to this, the asymmetrical shaft is annoying. Why is it so hard for boot makers to make a legitimately wide shaft TALL boot that hits at the knee, in a smooth, firm leather? I want to look like I’ve stepped out of a Ralph Lauren ad and I’m about to go do dressage on my horse, tall boot! I can’t be the only lady out there wanting this look. Sigh…the perfect boot search continues…

Awesome boots! Truly a wide calf boot. My calves are 15″ and I have enough room with skinny jeans on to fit my hand between my calf and the boot. I probably could’ve gotten by with the regular calf of the same boot but I don’t mind the extra room. I’m short 5,3″ and when I sit the back of my knees hit the boot but not so much it bothers me. The shoes are narrow and tight with thicker socks on as other reviews said.

The leather is lovely and the shoe fit is true to size. The wide calf too wide and the regular calf too narrow.

I was excited to get these and they looked as good as I thought they would. However, I was disappointed after trying them on because the top of the boot (circumference) was so wide it looked funny. The shaft fit good (a little snug for wide calf, but it still worked). So I am returning because of the very wide top of the boot. Would be good for someone who needs extra room near the knee area. I am 5ft 2 inches tall.

I was a bit nervous about whether these would zip up over my shapely calves after some of the reviews I read. No problem! They’re perfect!!!!

These are my dream boots. I finally found a pair of boots that are hip to go around my 17″ calf’s. Love the style and fit.

Finally! A pair of boots that fit!!! Thank you, Zappos, for allowing me to try on and send back the other 6-8 pairs. Sam Edelman Penny 2 Wide Calf is accurate 17 inch calf. I purchased M and W. All other reviews about the instep/ankle being tight were correct. I am keeping the W and inserting a heel cup with arch support. Also, thick/padded socks will help with the extra space.
I will have to review on true arch support and comfort at a later date. Still too warm outside to wear them.

I needed a boot to wear to my husband’s upcoming interment at Arlington National Cemetery if the weather is Cold/rainy/snowy. I selected this boot and LOVE it. It is a stylish, smart looking boot and very comfortable. I need comfort as I walk behind the cassion. I am definitely pleased and happy with my purchase. Needless to say, I am sure I will be wearing this boots often.

I’ve had these in whiskey for three years and just bought the black. These boots look classy with jeans or elegant with a skirt and blazer. They’re comfortable, but may take a wear to break in. If you have even slightly wide feet, I’d recommend getting the wide width. I love that this brand has wide calf sizing. These fit my 16.75” calves with a little room to spare, but not gaping. Highly recommend.

Fits my 17” calf perfectly (after breaking them in) with a small gap at the top. The whiskey color was a bit off, so I bought leather darkening oil and treated them, now I love them. The toe is a bit long which can make your feet look bigger. Considering another pair in black. Photos show before and after oil treatment.

I normally wear 8 1/2 to 9. I ordered these in a 9 & they are a perfect fit. My calves are 16 inches around at the widest place. These boots are perfect for me as I have room to stuff my boot cut jeans in them as in the picture. They are a little big at the top for me without even stretching out the area that allows stretching. That’s ok for me as that way there will be room for thicker socks if I want to wear them. And they aren’t so big they don’t still look ok to me.

I have a wide calf… and the calves on these are HUGE!! also..the wide foot bed…not wide at all… was more narrow than some of my regular width shoes… these just didn’t work for me at all

I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I have crazy large calves and a high instep so boots can be quite pain to purchase in person let alone taking a chance online. I ordered a half size larger than my normal shoe and went with the wide Width. I have a slightly wider foot and the wide width is definitely NOT a true wide. However, they are amazing! The calf is very generous (the descriptor in the box is that they are generous to begin with ) I’m not a skinny jeans kind of girl (again, skinny jeans and generous calves are not a good match. ) but I do love a nice boot with a dress or leggings. These will be perfect! Great soles and firm footbed will make walking through the autumn leaves a joy!

Actual color was VERY disappointing!! They call it “whiskey” and the photo shows a rich brown with hints of burgundy. What I received is basic, BORING TAN! The color is flat and unappealing. Glad I ordered the black ones also!! (some stitching on both is not 100%)
